Hans Solmssen

Lead Mountain Guide

The Guides

Hans Solmssen grew up on the Big Island of Hawaii, where his love of the outdoors took root. He earned his UIAGM/IFMGA mountain guide certification in 1992 and has made Verbier, Switzerland his home for over 40 years. In 2002, Hans ventured to Greenland with a family to explore its vast ski terrain—an experience that launched his annual heli-ski pilgrimages ever since. As one of the early pioneers of Greenland heli-skiing, Hans has guided numerous clients through its remote and pristine landscapes.

Gilles Sierro is a highly experienced guide from the Val d’Hérens, where he oversees the valley’s search and rescue operations and ensures the safety of the local population. Despite his youth, Gilles has guided extensively, developing a keen eye for finding the perfect run at the ideal moment. I’ve had the privilege of sharing many guiding adventures with him; his boundless enthusiasm is contagious and makes every outing unforgettable.

Arne Hardenberg is an accomplished Greenlandic guide, deeply familiar with the country’s remote wilderness and extreme conditions. His years of experience in backcountry exploration make him a vital collaborator for heli-skiing expeditions. Arne’s local insight and enthusiasm enrich every adventure, ensuring both safety and unforgettable experiences for those who venture into Greenland’s rugged terrain.

The Cook

Martin, the chef at Hotel Maniitsoq, hails from Copenhagen and has honed his culinary skills through years of experience in Paris, a city renowned for its culinary excellence.

The Pilots

Our helicopter pilots undergo thorough annual training specifically tailored for arctic heliskiing. Stringent safety protocols are meticulously followed to guarantee the highest standards of flight safety. Continuous communication is maintained with air traffic control in Kangerlussuaq to provide immediate support in the unlikely event of an incident.

The Skipper

Jakob Olsen will take us far out to sea, if conditions permit, on a chase for any unlucky whales. Take an extra thick fleece for this ride towards the Arctic Circle.
